Based in the Central Texas area, Alexha is an artist that works with a range of mediums including pencil, charcoal, watercolor, and mixed media. Never one to limit herself, she loves to explore different techniques and subjects including abstract works and portraits.
Alexha's passion for art making started as soon as she could hold a pencil. She loved drawing cartoons with detailed scenes and story lines, taking inspiration from her favorite children's books illustrated by Steven Kellogg and movies animated by Don Bluth. With an eye for detail she grew in her talents and skills, expanding beyond cartoons and crayons into more complex compositions and mediums.
Wanting to expand on her abilities, Alexha decided to further her education and attended a community college, taking classes in photography and art, eventually transferring to Texas State University where she received a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts with an emphasis on painting, as well as, minors in writing and psychology.
During her time in college Alexha's father was diagnosed with lung cancer. He underwent extensive surgery and treatment, and has been cancer free since. Unbeknownst to her, this moment would later define her work and push her into exploring mixed media. One of her paintings, titled Tony, features her father and tells the story of his medical journey. This would define her future work, most of which tell a story of a person unknown to the rest of the world, revealing a piece of them that is beautifully hidden.
This desire and need for story telling migrated into a new medium, hand made stamps and stamp portraits. The models choose self descriptive words, those words are hand carved into a stamp by Alexha and used to build up the portrait.
Alexha continues to push herself and evolve into new styles and mediums, always on the move and looking for her next inspiration.
